Carabiners are connectors made up of metal usually aluminum and are spring loaded at the openings. Carabiners come in a variety of forms; the shape of the climbing carabiner and the kind of gate varies according to the use for which it is planned. There are two major varieties: locking and non-locking carabiners. Locking carabiners are used more often because they prevent the climbing carabiner from opening at the gates. They are segregated according to the type of gates they have. Carabiners are available as wire gate, bent gate, and straight gate. These names have been given to them as per the shape of the gates (opening) of the climbing carabiners. They should be selected as to the purpose they have to serve and utility they provide.
